Longfellow hopes to raise funds to help sponsor our after school Community Learning Center (CLC) wellness programs and student scholarships for community programs. Proceeds from the Puddle Jump can help to provide a safe, after school environment that supports student learning beyond the school day.Proceeds can also help Longfellow students play soccer, participate in Longfellow Adventure Girls, and other Wellness Activities.Proceeds from last year´s race helped 75 Longfellow students participate in AYSO soccer, Adventure Girl´s and Tiger Wood´s First T Golf Program. It is our hope that every child at Longfellow will have the opportunity to participate in after school activities. We believe that this support can and will make a difference in our students lives as they grow into adulthood.

Sherman 3rd graders hit the Trail!
Sherman third graders in Mrs. Slaggie's and Mrs. Spaulding's reading classes completed an Iditarod unit this March. First, the students read the novel Balto. Students then researched the Iditarod Sled Dog race. The third graders put their research into Power Point presentations, which included a musher that each student tracked during the race. The students were also treated to a presentation by 2006 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail, Terrie Hanke. Power Point presentations can be found at here.

Manz Elementary students donated over $730 to Feed My People Food Bank
Manz Elementary students donated over $730 to Feed My People Food Bank as part of the ECASD Custodians' Spring Food Drive. The idea to collect change came from the school´s 5th grade Community Service CHAMPS group. They gave each student a plastic egg and students returned their egg the following week filled with change. The community service group spent their noon recesses counting coins and marking every $5 in donations with a paper egg hung in the library window. On Friday, March 14th, the director of Feed My People visited Manz to receive the donation, which will enable the food bank to purchase more than 5000 pounds of food for distribution.

Roosevelt 4th Graders Support the Troops and Get an Unexpected Surprise!
Recently Mrs. Wendt challenged her 4th grade students to forego the traditional exchanging of cards and candy for Valentine´s Day and instead collect items for men and women serving overseas. The class had hoped to fill 2 boxes with items such as deodorant, sunscreen, lip balm, gum, and hand made valentines. The students donated enough items to fill 16 boxes! The boxes were sent to the 105th Calvary currently serving in Iraq which consists of individuals from eastern Wisconsin.Way to go 4th graders!
After writing and submitting this blurb, Mrs. Wendt received a letter from one of the service men who received a box her class sent. The man is Sergeant 1st Class Brain Walker, Platoon Sergeant of E Troop of the 105th Calvary, whose daughter is a Roosevelt student! Not only did he thank the students for their kindness but asked them to hand deliver a special letter to his daughter. The students then found out that Mr. Walker´s oldest daughter had Mrs. Wendt as a teacher and his cousin is currently in Mrs. Wendt´s class. While the students knew they were sending packages to Wisconsin service members they had no idea one would end up in the hands of a Roosevelt family member.

Sherman Elementary receives AODA mini grant
Sherman Elementary School has been discussing "Bullying" for the past several weeks now. Thanks to an AODA mini grant, Sherman was able to buy "Anti-Bullying" curriculum. School Counselor, John Ellenson, has taught this curriculum throughout the school. A parent education night was offered to our families, we had a poster contest with some fun prizes, and we had a fun, family night filled with Bingo, and the very talented local juggling group, "The Jugglenauts" to celebrate our newfound education.
